Founded in the 8th century B.C., Milazzo, known as ancient Mylai, is where Roman forces led by Caius Duilius defeated the Carthaginians in 260 B.C. It’s also famous for the 1860 battle in which Garibaldi’s Thousand defeated the Bourbon army.
Milazzo is a seaside destination, primarily serving as the access point to the Aeolian Islands. Visitors will find a sturdy castle, 16th-century walls, and the Old Cathedral dating back to 1608.
